Pieve Passo Mauria
Pieve di Cadore Passo Mauria Sentiero dei Papi.
Partendo da Pieve di Cadore si raggiunge la Ciclabile delle Dolomiti fino a Calalzo e poi si prosegue nell’anello nel cuore del Cadore passando per Vallesella fino al ponte sul lago a Domegge.
Attraversiamo il ponte e una bella strada asfaltata aperta al traffico, ma con traffico veramente limitato, ci porta con un po’ di saliscendi fino al ponte sul Cridola. Da qui comincia una bella salita molto pedalabile e a tornanti che raggiunge l’area sportiva di Lorenzago.
Ancora un piccolo strappo e arriviamo nel Paese che ha ospitato più volte per le vacanze il santo Padre Papa Giovanni Paolo II e Papa Benedetto XVI, dove si può visitare il Museo dei Papa.
Proseguiamo sulla strada statale sempre in salita, ma molto pedalabile, (con traffico limitato) e con gli ultimi 8 tornanti raggiungiamo il passo.
Poco prima del passo imbocchiamo una stradina sulla sinistra e aggiriamo un colle per poi ridiscendere per il sentiero dei Papi fino al Castello di Mirabello e alla villetta che ha ospitato i Papi.
Il percorso ha qualche tratto ripido e sassoso e va affrontato con molta attenzione.
Si prosegue fino a Lorenzago e poi si ripercorre il tratto fatto all’andata.

Departing from Pieve di Cadore, we join the Dolomites cycle path to Calalzo and then continue in the loop through the heart of Cadore, passing through Vallesella to the bridge over the lake at Domegge.
We cross the bridge and a lovely asphalt road open to traffic, but with very limited traffic, takes us up and down to the bridge over the Cridola. From here begins a lovely climb that is very rideable and winding, which reaches the Lorenzago sports area.
Another small climb and we arrive in the town that has hosted the Holy Father Pope John XXIII and Pope Benedict XVI several times for holidays, where we can visit the Museum of the Popes.
We continue on the uphill but very rideable state road (with limited traffic) and with the last 8 hairpin bends we reach the pass.
Shortly before the pass, we take a small road to the left and go around a hill and then descend along the Sentiero dei Papi (path of the Popes) to Mirabello Castle and the small villa that hosted the Popes.
The route has some steep and stony sections and must be tackled with great care.
Continue to Lorenzago and then retrace the route taken on the outward journey.
